You see that inspirational quote in the picture?
You know, the one that's really vague and doesn't give much direction. The one that any fool can misconstrue and turn into whatever they want it to mean.
Normally, I can't stand supposedly philosophical internet 'wisdom' quotes like this, but I've chosen to exploit this one for the benefit of the musicians reading my blog.
When artists come to my site they should see someone who has it all together. The music I have on my homepage should be crisp, professional, scintillating, and sound so good it'll make you slap ya mama! (Please don't do that) But, the fact of the matter is, I should have wrote this blog post over a year ago! Let me explain.
A while back I was stuck in a serious rut with my music career.
The quality of my music wasn't suffering, but my drive for success was faltering. There was so much going on in my life that I didn't feel that urgency for a music career anymore.
I made the classic mistake that most artists make, and thought that I just had to 'wait for the right opportunity'. Just wait on someone to come swoop me off my feet.
The thing is... I wasn't helpless. No one is. Not a single artist reading this post is helpless.
You need no one to come and save your music career. If you want this to happen, go and get it.
Under my false mindset of 'waiting' on my opportunities, a lot of precious time was wasted.
See, there was actually someone who offered to show me the ropes when I was struggling with my music. (I can't even remember the guys name anymore)
He had a good production business, and was offering tips for musicians to effectively market themselves to actually start seeing some real results. However, I never took the guy up on it.
I was a skeptic. Naturally, that's what humans do. You see something that someone claims will help, and you wonder if it will really work for you.
So, instead of taking him up on the offer, I continued to wallow in my minimally profitable music career. I would get sales here and there, but nothing significant.
Knowing what I know now; however, if I wouldn't have been so stubborn, I could have been writing this post to help out more artists 15 months ago!
Finally, I came to my breaking point months after my encounter with that producer.
Why it took me so long?
Because I'm one of the people (maybe like you reading this) who thought I didn't need help. I could figure things out on my own.
Which made no sense at all because I wasn't doing my music full-time, which means I should been taking all the help I could get.
I should have been the first one to heed advice and seek knowledge, but it took me about a year to make any moves.
After months of resistance, I bought my first course that helped me start marketing my music the smart way, and I haven't looked back since.
The information in the course was invaluable. I'd gladly pay for it again if I was given the chance.
But the thing that gets to me is I waited months! Day after day went by, and I still had no sustainable music career.
Why? Because I didn't want it badly enough. Rarely ever do people want a career in music as badly as they say they do, and I used to be one of those people.
I should have taken that first call for help the DAY that I saw it, but like so many I passed it up, and I suffered the consequences.
Success doesn't JUST come with action, but with an unadulterated desire to achieve your goals.
Ask yourself. Have you REALLY done everything you can to help your music career?
What do you keep struggling with in music?
What opportunities do you keep letting pass you by?
