Promoting your music career or business in today's digital age really is easier than ever. The problem is indie artists aren't aware of some really simple and effective methods for being successful in the industry. Follow this template for the perfect plan to gain more revenue this year!
Marketing your music online doesn’t have to be rocket science. Oddly enough though, creatives like musicians have a hard time thinking outside the box when it comes to marketing their music business on the internet.
For example, I did a quick YouTube search for ‘drake type beats’ to find some YouTube producers with a large subscriber base.
Now we’re talking about people who have tens of thousands of subscribers, so clearly they at least know a little bit about marketing.
BUT… and that’s a big but.
How are these same people limiting their revenue potential? Just because someone has 10,000+ or even 100,000+ subscribers or followers on YouTube, SoundCloud, Instagram, or Twitter doesn’t mean they still can’t improve their business.
I checked out some of their channels and websites. Although the design was ok, some of these people are losing literally thousands of dollars depending on how big their fan base is by not having complimentary products available for sale!
For instance, most producers and beat makers will sell beats, mixing and mastering services, and drum kits or sound packs.
That’s it…
Why is the only thing you’re selling when your customer base often buys products such as music promotion and studio gear?
I’m not saying you have to go and create a music promotion service if all you want to do is make beats, but I am saying it is extremely foolish to not get a commission from recommending a good music promotion company to your subscribers or email list.
Find products or services online that compliment the product or service you’re selling.
For producers, if someone wants to buy beats online, that obviously means they’re either a rapper, singer, or songwriter. You would need to ask yourself what other products do these people normally buy? Mixing and mastering is a good start, but that’s certainly not the only thing.
These people often buy music promotion as well!
Why doesn’t every single producer have a music promotion tab in their menu options on their website? Honestly, I’m not sure, but it doesn’t make any sense.
You can join our music affiliate program and start earning 25% of every promotion sale you refer.
The simplest way to do this is to make a review video or article of the service. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Just say what you like about the service and why you’re recommending it, and include your referral link in your video or article.
Whenever people click your referral link to buy the service, you get commission. It’s that simple.
Or if you don’t have time to make a video, you just make a quick page or link on your website or menu options referring people to the service. I do this with dozens of articles and products that help my readers and subscribers out, and the proof is in the numbers. See some examples of how I do this here.
Money I've Made Recommending Complementary Products
I think some musicians don’t do this because they either aren’t aware of it, they don’t fully comprehend it, or they have too much pride.
For my business, whenever I hear of an easy strategy that’s honest, works, and is effective, I implement it.
Please note I’m not saying recommend products that conflict with your business, but there are a handful of complimentary services artists and producers don’t refer that lose them revenue in the end.
Don’t be one of those people.
It makes absolutely no sense not to recommend complementary products on your website, YouTube, and social media accounts.
Search for a good service that has an affiliate program and make review articles and videos saying what you like about the service.
Put links for the services in your menu options on your website.
It’s simple and effective!
